                               Release Notes

                             Version R01.02.03

A. Installation Notes
=======================

The GP300 Select 5 Radio Service Software may be run directly from (5.25 inch
or 3.5 inch) floppy disk. It can also be installed onto a hard disk.

To install to hard disk:

1 insert the PROGRAM disk into drive A or B,
2 change the logged drive to that drive,
3 run the installer by entering the command
     INSTALL target_drive: com_port [-D]

The software is installed into the directory \MRSS\GP300_5T on the drive that
you specify as 'target_drive'. If a previous version of the RSS already exists,
the appropriate files will be replaced with new ones. The standard default
personality files will be replaced by new versions but all other previously
saved personality files will not be deleted.

The 'com_port' parameter specifies whether the radio interface box will be
connected to the PC's COM1 or COM2 communications port. This value is stored in
the configuration file GP300-5T.CFG.

If the '-D' option is specified, this causes the RSS to be configured to use
the German language. When the RSS is run, all text will be in German.

B. Update Information
=======================

The following changes were made at version R01.02.00:
-----------------------------------------------------

1 German Language

The RSS includes a mechanism for operating in German rather than English. The
German language text file, DEUTSCH.GTX, is copied over the file GP300-5T.GTX
if this feature is desired.

2 Crossband Operation

The RSS was modified so that it could read and write UHF crossband radios.

3 Auto Acknowledge with Variable Digits

A radio, when programmed with a previous release of the RSS, would only send
the base auto acknowledge sequence and would ignore variable digits when they
were present. After a radio is programmed with this release, it will correctly
transmit a sequence with variable digits.

The following changes were made at version R01.02.01:
-----------------------------------------------------

1 Auto Acknowledge in Scan and Call Revert

When a radio is programmed with this version of the RSS, the Auto Acknowledge
in Scan and Call Revert functions will operate correctly. Previously the radio
would sometimes transmit on the wrong channel when carrying out one of these
operations.

2 Self Quieting

Improvements have been made to this version of the RSS which will reduce the
occurence of self quieting problems.

The following changes were made at version R01.02.02:
-----------------------------------------------------

1 New Keyword in Configuration File

The configuration file now has a keyword, PATCH_FILE_PATH, which indicates
where external patch files are stored. This must be present and must point to
a valid directory which contains the appropriate files. If any of these
criteria are not met, the RSS will exit and display the message "Failed to
find correct patch files.".

2 DTMF

If a radio is programmed with DTMF by a previous version of the Field
Programmer software and the DTMF key is pressed, Select 5 calls would not
be received until another key had been pressed. This has been corrected.

3 Tx Inhibit

A new option has been created which allows Transmit Inhibit operation to be
either enabled or overridden when the radio is in auto reset mode. The new
option is "Tx Inhibit in Auto Reset". Disabling the option may be useful, for
example, if the radio normally operates with Transmit Inhibit but it is
required to transmit after it is selectively called irrespective of the
presence of carrier.

4 File Save Display

When a personality file is saved to disk, the file list display is now
automatically updated with the new file name.

5 Operation on fast PCs

If any previous version of the RSS is run on a very fast PC, such as a 50MHz
486, it would fail to start up correctly. This has been corrected.

The following changes were made at version R01.02.03:
-----------------------------------------------------

1 Self Quieting

Improvements have been made to this version of the RSS which will further
reduce the occurence of self quieting problems. These were occuring on
duplicate frequencies and on crossband radios.
