MOTOROLA MICOM-2 Radio Service Software (RSS) Version 2.0 - README File

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

PC S/W requirements:
MICOM-2 RSS runs on a PC compatible under Microsoft Windows 3.1.
It cannot run under DOS.

PC H/W requirements:
1. IBM-PC compatible ( 386 or higher) .
2. 5.25" 1.2Mb or 3.5" 1.4Mb floppy disk drive.
3. Serial Comm. (COM1 or COM2).
4. Hard disk free space of  1.5Mb.
5. PC to MICOM-2 Radio communication cable kit.

S/W INSTALLATION

MICOM-2 RSS Version 2.0 diskette contains the setup program.

To setup MICOM-2 RSS on a hard disk:
1. If Windows is not already running, type win at the DOS prompt.
-or-
If Windows is running, close any open applications.
2. Insert the MICOM-2 setup diskette in drive A, and close the drive door.
3. From the File menu, choose Run (ALT,F,R).
4. Type a:setup and press [ENTER].

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ECHOED TO YOU BY THE SETUP PROGRAM !!

The MICOM-2 RSS program is compressed, use only the setup utility in order 
to setup the MICOM-2 RSS to your hard disk.
The setup program is doing the following:
-Creates a directory (default=C:\MICOM2).
-Decompresses (compressed files) and installs all necessary files.
-Creates a MICOM-2 RSS program group and items. 
MICOM-2 RSS Program items are:
- MICOM-2 RSS
- MICOM-2 RSS HELP
- Readme.txt

TO RUN PROGRAM:
 After installation, in order to run the MICOM-2 RSS do one of the following:
 1. From the File menu choose Run, then type micom2.exe 
    (with its full path if required) and press [ENTER].
-or-
 Within Program Manager, double click  the MICOM-2 RSS icon, located in the
 MOTOROLA MICOM-2 RSS Program Group.
For communication with the radio, verify that the communication cable is connected
between the PC's serial communication port and the MIC/Programming connector
which is located on the Radio's front panel.

RSS OPERATION

PROGRAMMER UTILITIES

-RSS File operations(Open, Save, Print).
-Reading MICOM-2 Radio parameters(Read Device).
-Writing parameters to  MICOM-2 Radio (Write Device).
-Editing/changing configuration parameters(Channels, groups, options,
 accessories).
-Running MICOM-2 Radio BITE (Built In Test) to test Radio operability.
-Printing and Saving of BITE results.

Note: There is no need for password to access Programmer utilities.

TECHNICIAN UTILITIES

Note: To access the following listed utilities, Technician has to access
      'User' Dialog(Preferences|User...) and enter password.

-All Programmer's utilities.
-Radio Transmit Power Calibration.
-Radio Oscillator Calibration.
-ECN list modifications.
-Radio Serial Number modification.
-Radio serial communication baud rate change.
